'Adivasi Junglee Vanaspati Avshadha' published by Dnyanamata Sadan,Talasari, Palghar, outlines traditional uses of spices and herbs for treating illnesses, reflecting indigenous medicinal knowledge.

Condition Description

The pages of the booklets are fragile due to insect infestation. The binding of the booklet has rust stains and discoloration, hence need immediate attention.

The accession comprises educational and ethnobotanical publications significant to Adivasi cultural preservation. ‘Ghinchidbai – 1994, a literacy booklet developed by Vishwa Mandal Sevashram, includes children’s songs translated into the Pawari language by community members Mr. Naresh and Mr. Michael Ravtala, highlighting efforts toward indigenous language revitalization. Additionally, ‘Adivasi Junglee Vanaspati Avshadha’, published by Gnanamata Sadan, Talasari (Palghar), documents traditional herbal remedies and reflects the transmission of indigenous medicinal knowledge within tribal communities. Both items serve as valuable resources for understanding Adivasi education and ethnomedicine. The Ghinchidibai 1994 will be kept in new MPSM Papers Collection , while Adivasi Junglee Vanaspati Avshadha will be included in new Gnanmata Sadan Papers.

The material was found in the central office archives of MPSM, Nashik. Later all the volumes were digitizes by Pratiksha (Resource Development Officer)as a part of the collection and was uploaded on drive.

Retention Rule

This is a permanent transfer of material to MPSM, where it will be preserved and made accessible as part of its growing institutional archive. Digital copies will be permanently housed at both the Archives at NCBS and MPSM. The material directly supports the PAST project’s aim to document science institutions through personal and institutional histories, aligning with the grantee’s ongoing archival work.
